I have been asked, on a number of occasions, exactly what insignia the 25th Battalion Royal Fusiliers wore on their uniforms during the Great War and what, if any, variations there were. The honest answer is that I don’t know categorically, I’m not an avid collector of battalion insignia although I do have the odd item or two, and I will admit to not having studied the subject in any great depth. However, in an attempt to rectify this and give some idea as to what was worn I have studied the items and images I have, had discussions with a few collectors about pieces in their collections and put the following few pages together to at least illustrate the subject, please follow the links to the relevant sections.
Please note that I have attempted to be as accurate as possible but I won’t go as far as to claim that what I have written is a definitive account. If you spot any glaring mistakes on my part, have any items yourself or know of any images showing the wearing of battalion insignia, then I would be pleased to hear from you.
